Welcome to Year 1

Mrs Glover, Mrs Jones, Miss Jones, Miss Samphier and Ms Terrett.

We have lots to look forward to this half term! Here are some highlights of our curriculum this half term:

English: We are reading Mr Wolf's Pancakes and will be writing a recipe all about how to make the perfect pancakes! We will also be exploring the poem 'Hurt No Living Thing' and creating our own poem based of it.
Maths: We are looking at teen numbers and finding ways to add and subtract within our teen numbers. We will be looking at a range of different strategies to help make our addition and subtraction easier and speedier!
Science: Our science is about the different seasons, with a focus on Autumn and Winter. We will be looking at the different ways to recognise when there has been a change in season.
Geography: Our Geography topic is all about our environment and how to keep our planet safe. We will be looking at different ways we can help our planet, such as through recycling, using less water and turning the lights off.
DT: Structures - the different types and how to create a steady structure.
Spanish: Los Superheroes.

Please come to school in school PE kit - shorts or tracksuit bottoms in cold weather, white polo shirt or t-shirt, a school jumper and trainers. Please make sure long hair is tied back and jewellery is not worn/ stud earrings taped up..

Phonics homework will be sent home on a Wednesday to recap some prior learning. Please practice the sounds with your child to support their phonics learning. The children will also have access to Numbots, please spend the equivalent of an hour each week.

We are looking at our number bonds to 10s and Year 1 have been challenged to see if they can beat Mrs Glover's high score!

Phonics books will be sent home on a Wednesday, to be returned the following week on a Monday. Please read each night with your child - this could be a mix of both phonics and reading for pleasure books. Please sign the children's reading log, which will be checked on a Wednesday and rewarded with house points.

Lunch box (unless your child is having a school packed lunch) and water bottle.
They also need to bring their home reader and reading log every day.
If it is colder or raining, please make sure your child has a coat and a jumper with a name in.

Every Monday. Please ensure books are being returned each week so your child can continue to borrow from the Library.
