Art Intent
At Gatcombe Park Primary School, we aim to develop children as artists who demonstrate these characteristics:
- Recognise that art covers a range of skills and includes working with a range of mediums.
- Explore, experiment and take risks with ideas to build confidence, recognizing that trial and improvement are key skills for all areas of art.
- Know about and take influence from great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
- Produce a range of creative work from observation and imagination, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences in personal art journals.
- Understand and use artistic vocabulary (for example, line, shape, pattern, colour, texture, form).
- Critique their own work, as well as that of their peers, reflecting and analysing to recognise effective ideas and skills.
- Critique the work of established artists, expressing likes and dislikes while still recognising skills and talent.
